A seven-year-old girl's bad day at school got worse when she got home, San Antonio police said, and it landed an adult behind bars.

Investigators said a woman who has a parental relationship with the alleged victim became enraged over a bad behavior note from the child's school.

Maria Ruth Leron was arrested on a charge of injury to a child over the weekend. The 39-year-old woman is out of jail on a $15,000 bond.

According to an arrest warrant, the suspect's child had been playing in the restroom and talking back to a teacher at school. The teacher reportedly sent a note about the incidents home with the seven-year-old girl.

Leron allegedly confronted the victim in the child's bedroom as the girl lay across the bed. Police  said she started whipping the girl with a leather belt.

However, investigators said things started getting out of hand when the belt's buckle started hitting the young victim on both sides of her face, the forehead, the stomach and back.

Police said the victim had marks and bruising as evidence of the severe whipping.

The incident allegedly happened March 23.
