San Antonio Express-News editor Bob Rivard has resigned his post, newspaper staff members reported this afternoon.

Several reporters provided updates via Twitter after a newsroom meeting at which the announcement was made. The Express-News later reported the development on its website.

Investigative reporter John Tedesco quoted publisher Tom Stephenson saying that Rivard, who holds the title of editor, executive VP/News,  "thinks the time is right to pursue some other endeavors."

Tedesco said Rivard was not in attendance at the meeting but later sent an email to the news staff.

The Express-News reported that Kyrie O'Connor of the Houston Chronicle would become interim editor while a national search is conducted.
