CIBOLO, Texas -- Police have arrested a 16-year-old student they say spread rumors about a shooting at Steele High School on Friday.
The Cibolo Police Department issued a press release on Thursday saying the threats were generic in nature but that all threats are taken seriously.
The suspect, who had run away from home, allegedly told students that he believes a gunman will enter the school on Friday and shoot students in the lunch line.
Campus police said he made the comments to a group of students who were discussing what they believe will happen on the end of the Mayan calendar, which is Friday.
The suspected student was taken to the Cibolo Police Department on Friday afternoon. His mother was also there.
Police Chief Gary Cox said the student was a troubled young man who made bad decisions.
