An Indianapolis pet shop was shut down after health inspectors discovered hundreds of animals dead in their cages.

Inspectors identified more than 600 violations. Most of the dead pets were lizards and fish. Cats and dogs were found standing in filth in their cages.

In his 45 years running Fish Bowl Pet Shop, Bill Houston says he's worked hard to do good business.

"There's a lot of things we did right, but they're not up to par today, I guess... for some reason," Houston said.

Most of the pets have been removed. However, the fish will require additional care.
