It's "Texas Week" on South Padre Island.
Officials are expecting as many as 45,000 spring breakers this month.
South Padre Island is second only to Panama City, Florida, for the number of college students it draws during Spring Break.
Mexico is the top international destination.
More than 100,000 students are expected to travel there.
But the U.S. State Department is urging Americans to delay unnecessary travel to some parts of Mexico.
The warning follows a wave of violence in recent days, including the brutal murder of three people connected to the American consulate in Juarez.
The killings took place just minutes after the husband of another consulate worker was killed and his two children were wounded.
Authorities suspect a drug cartel carried out the crimes but offered no motive.
Drug gang violence has made Juarez one of the deadliest cities in the world, with more than 2,500 people murdered last year.
