After a half a century on the city's east side, The San Antonio Housing Authority is tearing down Sutton Homes and rebuilding a new Sutton Homes.

At a cost of $24.3 million, the new Sutton Homes will contain fewer units than the one built in 1952. Financing for the project is coming from multiple sources including the state, the city and the federal government.

The new Sutton Homes will have just over 190 units, far fewer than the 242 the old Sutton Homes had.

SAHA says in addition to being smaller, the new Sutton Homes will be geared towards a wide range of income levels and designed to have more of a community feel.
