A 36-year-old Air Force veteran who fought in Iraq was killed early Friday morning while heading to buy his son a toy.

Around 5:40 Friday morning, Daniel Delvalle attempted to cross the road in the 8300 block of FM 78 when he was hit by a car. He died at the scene, Converse police say.

Police said the victim was wearing dark clothing and could not be seen by the driver. No charges are expected in the accident.

Daniel Delvalle learned all about San Antonio during basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, family members say. He loved the city so much, he decided to move his family to the Alamo City almost three years ago. In between, he lived in Japan and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2004, Delvalle injured his shoulder during an explosion in Iraq. He returned stateside to Abilene, Texas, and was eventually granted a medical discharge.

Daniel and his wife, Dagmaris, were married almost ten years ago. Three years ago, the couple had a son and named him Jeriel.

The Delvalles also took care of their nephew, Anfernee Molina. "He meant a lot to me," Molina said. "He was like a father. He raised me. He showed me what I know about life."
