HELOTES -- Nearly 350 students are breaking in a brand new school on Monday morning.
Los Reyes Elementary, 10785 Triana Parkway, is the Northside Independent School Districts newest gem. It's the brand new home of the Longhorns.
Principal Kathy Gorsche is a 20-year teaching veteran with a passion for reading. It should be no surprise that the library welcomes visitors as they walk into the two-story school.
"We are going to be just a gold standard school," Gorsche said. "We are going to have quality instruction, we are going to support the entire child -- whatever the child's needs are -- and we are going to be a learning community where staff and children grow every day."
The bilingual cluster school is named after one of the original pioneer schools in the area. Throughout the years, there have been three Los Reyes schools in the Northside ISD.
Over the next four year, the student population at Los Reyes is expected to double to 830.
The first day starts with only 18 classroom teachers. The school has a total of 30 teachers.
The school's mascot celebrates the fact that the area used to be all ranch land filled with longhorns.
