A Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate who escaped from the Torres Unit in Hondo on Tuesday afternoon was back in custody Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the department.
Tony Steve Requeno, 31, was arrested about five miles from the unit by deputies with the Medina County Sheriff's Office.
Requeno had last been seen working on a tractor at about 3 p.m. Tuesday when he vanished. Officers later discovered the tractor but no sign of Requeno.
Deputies received a call at about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday from a citizen who had spotted a man walking down a nearby road. Requeno was taken into custody and will be arraigned on felony escape charges, officials said.
Requeno is serving an eight-year sentence for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in Harris County.
