Bexar County Sheriff's deputies say they now know how an inmate who broke out of jail was able to pull off his Houdini act.

The Sheriff's office says Francisco Tristan, 33, showed them how he got out of his leg shackles with a simple safety pin.

Tristan's mother originally claimed a guard helped him escape. But Tristan later told investigators that was not true.

Deputies believe he blended in with a group that was being released legally.

KENS 5 has also learned there is probably no surveillance video of the escape. The jail does not have the technology to continously monitor the facility. They only have an antiquated system that manually records on VHS tapes.
