You use electricity every day, most of the time without even thinking about it. But, you still have to pay for it.

Several people called in this week saying their CPS bills have gone MIA. And when they did show up, the months had caught up to them and their wallets.

We called CPS Energy to find out what you can do to keep that from happening to you.

A spokesperson said the most common reason for not getting a bill is because CPS Energy is unable to get an accurate meter reading.

So, the first thing you can do is call customer service and inquire about your bill.

If you don't get a bill, it doesn't mean you don't have to pay. You have to be pro-active.

There are things you can do to help meter readers and prepare for their visit.

First, know when your meter 'read dates' are. You can find that date on the back of your bill.

When that day arrives, make sure your gate is open. Put your pets up, clean up any debris and trim the shrubs around your meter.
You are responsible for your bill, but if it is too high, CPS Energy will work with you to make an affordable payment plan.

But, if you don't get a bill, don't wait for the situation to fix itself. It won't. You can always send in what you normally pay each month, and CPS Energy will adjust your account accordingly.

Hello, I thought you and your readers might be interested in our iPhone app, MeterRead, which allows users to easily read dial meters and supports digital meters as well. You can read your meter and then check it 20 minutes, 20 hours or 20 days later and it will calculate your 30 day estimated kW-h usage for the next 30 days. It's a great way to save money and keep the Electric company honest. It's on sale for the next week at only 99 cents. Thanks! Mark
