A warning is going out to Texas residents about a possible scam to steal your personal information involving U.S. Post Office boxes.

Thieves are coating the inside of some mail boxes with an adhesive. When you put in a letter, it gets stuck and then someone can come along and pull your letter back out . If it's a bill, the thieves have all your personal information.

Fort Worth residents say it has been happening for a while, but they didn't realize they were witnessing a crime.

"I had no idea that that was what was happening," said one postal customer. "I thought somebody just spilled a Slurpee in there or something."

The postal inspector believes it's an attempt at phishing -- where someone steals your personal information such as your credit card or bank account number.

Investigators say this isn't an isolated incident. Since last October police have made more than 30 arrests.
