U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison laid out her plan Wednesday in San Antonio to clean up TxDOT and reduce traffic congestion.
Traffic congestion has become a hot issue for many voters.
Hutchison says she realizes traffic jams are a major frustration for many Texans, which is why she is traveling the state to discuss her plan.
She said her first priority is to reform TxDOT, which she says is structurally deficient.
The senator also mentioned placing new restriction on toll-road construction and building a high-speed rail network connecting San Antonio to Dallas and Houston.
"I am running for governor to deal with the trasnportation problems," Hutchison said. "The present govenor has done nothing in 10 years but clog our freeways and look at a massive land grab that abuses private property land owners."
Gov. Rick Perry's campaign office released a rebuttal to Hutchison's transportation plan.
"Nearly all of Sen. Hutchison's transportation proposals are already being practiced, and she offers no way to pay for the ones that are not," a Perry spokesman said.
KENS 5 asked Sen. Hutchison about how she was going to pay for her plan. She said before she would even look at raising taxes, she would have an audit done on TxDOT because she believes there is a lot of money that is currently being wasted.
