Five abused horses will soon find new owners, thanks to a horse sanctuary in Nixon.
Seven horses were found severely malnourished in a broken down trailer back in September. Officials said temperatures in the trailer reached 140 degrees.
Two of the horses died. The rest have been taken in by the Meadow Haven Horse Rescue and Sanctuary.
"As far as I can tell, they're sound. I'm hoping that I'll be able to put some more weight on a few of them and hopefully find them good homes," said Darla Cherry of Meadow Haven.
Workers at the horse sanctuary tell us they have limited space and the goal is to nurse the horses back to health as quickly as possible in order to get treatment for the more-neglected ones.
