AUSTIN, Texas -- A major Texas company Wednesday announced an aggressive expansion. HEB is building more stores and adding thousands of jobs.
The growth will be happening throughout Texas -- all within 2010. The grocer says the expansion will create 5,000 jobs, build 13 stores and include 60 renovations.
In Central Texas, only one new store will open -- in Dripping Springs – creating 400 new jobs. Two Austin stores will undergo major renovations.
The Riverside store in Southeast Austin will be completely rebuilt behind the existing building, creating 100 new jobs. The Allandale store at 2222 and Burnet Road will be expanded by 20,000 and bring 40 new jobs.
Along with the new jobs, HEB says it's dropping prices on 5,000 of the most popular items in the store under both the HEB brand and national name brands.
The announcement comes just a few months after grocery store competitor Randall’s began a massive price-slashing campaign in an effort to lure shoppers.
