SAN ANTONIO -- The start of the new school year is right around the corner and KENS 5 has learned that thousands of local children still haven't gotten all their required immunizations.
The student population at Northside ISD is getting ready to reach record numbers, that is if thousands of students aren't turned away on the first day of school.
School officials say parents need to keep the phrase in mind, "no shots- no school"
NISD is one of many school districts that strictly enforces the health screening policy.
"What that means is that those five thousand kids that when they show up to school on August t27th. We're not going to allow them to go to class," says NISD Spokesman Pascual Gonzalez.
Gonzalez says children with incomplete immunization records will be held in the front office until parents can pick them up.
Those students will not be allowed back into class until they have the proper documentation showing that they're current on all of their shots.
