It's called "Further Confusion", or FurCon for short, and it's one of those things where if they have to explain it, you wouldn't understand.
It's basically a gathering of people who love anthropomorphics: characters or creatures who have human and animal characteristics.
The so-called "furries" are discouraged to talk while in costume they say it breaks the illusion.
The ones that do, though, see themselves as ambassadors. They say boundaries between people disappear when they wear the friendly furry costumes.
At 3,000 attendees, the San Jose-based convention is the world's second largest.
They donate all the proceeds to charity, and this year will pump $2.5 million into the local economy.
FurCon, they say, is going mainstream.
However, for millions of Americans, they only know about furries from what they've seen on a racy 2003 episode of 'CSI'.
It's a sensitive topic, but people who wear fursuits tend to have a good sense of humor. As one person said about FurCon, it's a place where you can go and not worry about who you are.
