SAN ANTONIO -- You've heard the shouts along the Fiesta parade routes every year: "Show us your shoes!" Now it's the rallying cry for a drive to collect 10,000 new pairs of shoes for San Antonio's needy.
Anyone who has ever been to a Fiesta parade and admired the lovely royal women in their beautiful gowns knows it’s a head-to-toe tradition.
Now, Rey Feo and Capitol One are teaming up to take that footwear excitement and turn it into something positive for San Antonio.
During a visit to Colonial Hills Elementary School on Friday, April 13, 2012, the ugly king’s entourage promoted the “Show Us Your Shoes” campaign.
“There’s so much need for children and adults in San Antonio who do not have the opportunity to buy new shoes,” said Rey Feo 2012 Richard Ojeda. “And it really helps with their self-esteem.”
School children are being asked to bring in new pairs of shoes as part of a contest. And individuals can bring in new pairs to any Capitol One bank branch between now and April 28 as part of a campaign to get footwear to people who need it most.
“We raised over 4,000 new pairs of shoes last year,” commented Mark Koshnick of Capitol One. “This year our goal is 10,000 new pairs of shoes.”
“One thing I’ve learned is San Antonio has a heart as big as Texas,” Koshnick added.
Rey Feo is visiting 65 schools this Fiesta season. And he’ll be promoting the popular Fiesta parade battle cry.
This is the third year for the “Show Us Your Shoes” campaign. Places like St. PJ’s Children’s Home and Haven for Hope will distribute the thousands of pairs collected.
