The high price of copper has some thieves going to great lengths to get their hands on the valuable metal.
Thieves broke into two duplexes located in a brand new neighborhood in New Braunfels, located at Highway 46 South and Alves Lane.
New Braunfels police say the thieves tore through sheet-rock and insulation in order to access the copper wire from the homes' plumbing systems.
Investigators believe the break-in happened sometime during the weekend or early this week.
The theft was discovered Tuesday morning by a construction foreman.
The total amount of copper stolen from the homes comes to about $900, and authorities say that does not include the damage done inside the homes.
Anyone who has information about the case is asked to contact New Braunfels Crime Stoppers at 1-(830) 620-TIPS
