SAN ANTONIO -- Man's best friend foiled an attempted home invasion on San Antonio's northeast side. However, the dog's courageous act would be its last.

San Antonio police said they are looking for two suspects in connection with the attempted burglary early Thursday morning. Strangely, one of them was reportedly wearing a Transformers mask.

A woman living in the 4000 block of Desert View told police two men rang her doorbell around 12:15 a.m. and would not identify themselves despite numerous inquires.

Police said the woman crack her door, saw two men armed with shotguns and at least one of the suspects wearing a mask from the movie Transformers.

The woman's dog came to her rescue by charging the burglars at the door, police said. The suspects then allegedly shot the dog in the jaw and ran away.

Police said the dog was in such poor shape that officers had to put it down.
