SAN ANTONIO-- The religious statue outside of the east-side home was spared, but the place was riddled with bullets though six children inside also escaped injury.
Family members said 20-year-old Michael Mota responded to a small green car that pulled up near his home at S. Monumental and Martin Luther King Drive just after midnight.
His brother, Gerald Mota, says someone in the car asked for him, and Michael approached the car. A fight ensued and Michael Mota was met with gunfire.
An 18-year-old was also shot. At last report the teen was still at an area hospital.
Those involved said the double shooting is the result of an ongoing dispute between two families who live nearby.
One resident says the area is getting out of control.
"It's getting worse because now we see the prostitutes coming closer. We see them dealing right there in the corner. Dealing everywhere. We see the prostitutes getting picked up, getting dropped off," says Elisa Cisneros. " I just want an end to all of it."
San Antonio Police are looking for two to four suspects. Police said all of the potential suspects are documented gang members in their late teens or early 20s.
Michael Mota leaves behind two children. He was also a gang member, but his older brother insists the double shooting was not gang-related.
Friday authorities were back at the Denver Heights neighborhood where they towed away a small green car. They said it may be connected to the murder case.
