The high-profile capital murder trail of Joe Estrada, Jr., is entering its fourth week in Victoria. The 20-year-old is a convicted killer who could end up on death row.
On Monday, defense attorneys went going over Estrada's time in school, showing he had a number of learning disabilities. His school records show he was unable to think clearly and unable to calm himself down.
Attorneys may be trying to create some compassion for the defendant by referring to him as Joey.
Estrada faces life in prison without parole or execution.
In April 2008, Estrada killed Viola Barrios with a bow and arrow, took her Mercedes Venz and credit cards and then set her bedroom on fire. Before he was arrested, he went on a shopping spree.
Estrada told police he broke into the Barrios' home in need of $300 to get his girlfriend an abortion. He was using drugs and only 18 years old when he murdered Barrios.
