A sliced fiber-optic cable cut-off the San Antonio Fire Department from the rest of the world Wednesday.
Crews working construction next door at the Municipal Auditorium inadvertently cut the main fiber cable line to the fire department's administration headquarters.
That left dozens of employees, including the chief, without computer access and phone-line communications in their offices.
The mini-emergency is not affecting public safety: 911 and other service calls are being handled by dispatch, just like always.
But firefighters did bring out their million-dollar command truck to help handle the situation.
The Command RV is now providing Wi-Fi and communications to the folks inside the building, so that the business-end of fighting fires can continue.
"We still have to pay people, we still have to get information out. It's budget time, we have to work on the budget. There's a lot of different things we do down here that needs to be maintained," said SAFD's deputy chief, Rodney Hitzfelder.
So while there is no real emergency, many on staff have been inconvenienced.
Officials say the cable problem was fixed by the afternoon.
