It's official the Bexar Metropolitan Water District has been dissolved.
Saturday morning the utility merged into SAWS.
The letters on the BexarMet office were taken down Saturday, signaling the end of 65 years of service.
It was a long time in coming. Last year voters approved the merger and Friday the
U.S. Department of Justice cleared the way for the dissolution.
Texas state senator, Carlos Uresti, says BexarMet's internal problems led to the downfall.
"Because of their inability to work together - they were disfunctional - inability to maintain a budget and to lead and motivate their employees, it was time to dissolve BexarMet," he said.
Uresti says the move will improve customer service and is not expected to affect rates in the near future.
