Students getting ready to start class at the Alamo Community Colleges are struggling to make ends meet, and they're blaming the school's financial aid system.

Alamo Community Colleges provides financial aid to students through a debit card system.

On Tuesday district officials confirmed the debit cards have already been issued to qualifying students, but that currently all the balances are at zero. They said the money would show up between August 23 and August 30.

In e-mails to the KENS 5 newsroom, students are claiming that "the card is horrible" and feel that the district will "wait till the last minute" before finally depositing tuition money.

Campus officials declined to comment on camera, but did say that they are doing everything they can to help students when it comes to assisting with tuition expenses. They also said  students can opt to receive a check, but that the debit card system is an efficient and productive method when it comes to issuing financial aid.
