Mayor Julian Castro and other city leaders came together for a special ceremony to mark September 11. It took place on the campus of the New Life Christian Center, on Highway 90 West.
It was a day of remembrance, as city leaders shared there stories about what 9/11 means to them, and what they hope the future holds for the entire nation as a whole.
Mayor Castro addressed the crowd, recognizing those who suffered the greatest loss from the 9/11 attacks. San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood also spoke about his memories of 9/11, paying tribute to the 343 New York firefighters who died the day the Twin Towers came down. The commemorations keynote speaker was retired U.S. Air Force Major General Chuck Carroll, who captivated the crowd. The ceremony wrapped up with the Lackland AFB Honor Guard, who presented a special wreath laying, and a conducted a 21-gun salute to honor the victims of the September 11 attacks.
