FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — Several thousand soldiers and their families and others from the nearby community have gathered at Fort Hood for a carnival and concerts.

Friday's event was organized by the USO and was to feature performances by Gary Sinise (sih-NEESE') and the Lt. Dan Band, Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, the Zac Brown Band and rapper Chamillionaire.

USO president Sloan Gibson said the event was to thank soldiers for their service and to thank the community for their support in the wake of the Nov. 5 shootings.

An Army psychiatrist has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in connection with the mass shooting on the Texas Army post last month.
