SAN ANTONIO -- Police stated that three men were in an apartment Sunday afternoon when one man suddenly  freaked out and ran out of the unit and smack into trouble.

It was around 4:30 p.m. when the suspect reportedly headed straight to the house next door to the Madera Apartment complex near the corner of Kyle Seale Pkwy and Hausman Road. He allegedly confronted a 67-year-old woman who was in the front yard.

Police say the woman quickly ran into her home and alerted her 69-year-old husband to the strange goings-on.

Meanwhile the suspect's friends, who had run after him, stopped at the end of the drive leading up to the house.

“There’s a verbal exchange with the home owner and this person. He’s trying to inquire, ‘What are you doing in my house?’ -  to no avail. And the suspect lunges towards him,” says Sgt. Steven Lovelady of SAPD.

Police say the suspect almost took the homeowner down but he was able to fire three shots at the suspect, hitting him several times.   Police say the suspect was transported to University Hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Investigators are still trying to determine what may have set off the suspect.  They say the suspect may face charges of assault and burglary.
