SCHERTZ -- Two people are dead after police say a pickup truck slammed into the rear of an 18-wheeler at a rest stop along I-35 south.

Police in Schertz said the accident occurred only minutes after they received a report of a reckless driver around 3:25 a.m.

The driver of the pickup crashed into the rear of the semi truck that was leaving the rest stop near Schwab Road, police said.

Both vehicles went up in flames after the crash.

Police said the fire was fueled by text books the 18-wheeler was hauling from Dallas to Laredo.

Two people inside the pickup were killed, police said.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.
