A new fireworks show is scheduled  for downtown next week for the fourth. It is the first annual Stars and Stripes over San Antonio to be held at HemisFair Plaza.

The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce worked with several businesses on getting the project going after budget cuts put an end to the fireworks shows held on local military bases each year.

The Chamber selected about 15 food trucks to cater food for the event, and other businesses are providing play areas for kids.

Marty Davis of Chela’s Tacos will be one of the vendors dishing out his Mexican food at the party.

“We’ll be slammed the whole time if they have thousands and thousands of people,” said Davis.

Bands will start playing at HemisFair Park at around 6 p.m. on July 4, and the fireworks are scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.
