HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A deputy shot a home-invasion suspect in a northwest Harris County neighborhood Friday morning.

It happened just before 9 a.m. in the 5400 block of Windsor Forest.

Investigators said the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Matthew Paul O'hara, broke into the home and ransacked the place, while the homeowner and her baby hid in a closet.

When deputies got to the scene, they said they spotted Ohara leaving in the mother’s stolen Jeep. One deputy opened fire on the vehicle, striking the suspect through the front windshield. A tire was also shot out.

The suspect stopped the Jeep about a block away and was taken into custody in a nearby home. Deputies said he was shot three times, but his condition was not known.

Inside the Jeep, deputies said they found several items stolen from the house. The mother and her child were unharmed.
