A bike worth $10,000 was stolen from Lance Armstrong's Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop in downtown Austin Sunday.  In an effort to recover the bike, the shop has filed a police report and is using the social media site Twitter.

One of the Trek bikes was stolen out of the back door,” said Robbie Brennan, store manager.

Brennan says the bike is a time trial bike. It’s entirely customized -- from the paint job to the frame to the wheel base.

“There were probably only 15 of those bikes painted that white color,” he said. “Whoever stole the bike has no idea what they’ve stolen.”

Phil Reed is an avid cyclist. He stopped at the shop after at a long ride.

“I think it’s kind of crazy somebody would try and take a bike like that.  The odds are probably someone is going to take it and strip it down for parts and try to get rid of it that way,” he said.  “I think Twitter will help a lot in finding the bike just because so many people are on there."

It’s the same method Armstrong used to help recover his stolen bike at the Tour of California back in February and one that store managers hope will work again.

“We’ll probably see that bike before the end of the week,” said Brennan.

Anyone with information should call the bike store at 473-0222 or CrimeStoppers at 472-TIPS.
