HOUSTON — Foggy conditions caused nearly 100 vehicles to collide on I-10 between Houston and Beaumont on Thanksgiving morning.
Two passengers in the same vehicle were fatally struck by an 18-wheeler in the eastbound lane around 8:45 a.m., according to the Texas Highway Patrol.
The deceased were from Pearland, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. There names were not immediately available.
A chain reaction of crashes occured in both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Troopers estimated at least 100 vehicles were involved and 80 to 120 people were transported to area hospitals in Beaumont, Port Arthur and Winnie, Texas.
Thw estbound lanes on I-10 reopened shortly after noon. Troopers said the eastbound lanes will remain closed until possibl will remain closed until late Thursday, troopers said.
