Every VIA rider's experience in San Antonio just got a whole lot easier with VIA Metropolitan Transit's new app, GoMobile.
On Wednesday, VIA announced its partnership with a technology company called Moovel North America. The app is free to download and users can simply input credit card information to buy tickets.
"Once you get on the bus, it's very easy. You just flash your ticket. It’s an animated ticket. There's a bunch of security things built into the ticket itself so the operators and the drivers know what to look for," said Anthony Tom, Moovel North America’s chief business development officer.
Jeffrey Arndt, CEO of VIA Metropolitan Transit, said that the app was designed to help passengers avoid paper ticketing and, instead, streamline the process.
"This has the potential to impact over 40 million passengers in our region every year. Trips can now be planned and purchased more efficiently from the palm of our hand," Arndt explained.
Salvador Valverde, a VIA rider for two years, said that he relies on the bus to get to work. He downloaded the app for the first time on Wednesday.
"It's gonna help me and everybody else out," Valverde said.
GoMobile is available for Android and iOS users.
