It's that time again. Time for holiday shopping. And if you haven't finished your list and are dreading the hectic lines and parking, local small shops are trying to make holiday shopping hassle-free for you.
If you've been on Houston Street, you may have noticed vacant spaces have been turned to "pop up shops." They are a temporary home to some local designers featuring everything from local artwork to handmade jewelry.
"You feel like you get a flavor of a town as opposed to shopping at a major chain," Dallas resident Tim Roberts said.
Tatiana Ayala makes and sells jewelry at one of the pop-up shops downtown.
"We like to support small business. We like to see and support each other and see the young entrepreneurs coming up," Ayala said.
These pop-up shops are temporary. The City of San Antonio also has a part in helping up and coming designers get their products on the market while utilizing their open space.
"Right now we're on Houston Street at a vacant storefront and we're giving local entrepreneurs the opportunity to test their concepts and also activate our downtown as well," said Kelly Saunders, a representative with San Antonio Center City Development and Operations (CCDO).
You can find these pop-up shops on 140 and 212 E. Houston St. They're open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. December 15-17. On Fridays and Saturdays, they're open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
