SAN ANTONIO - Small Business Saturday is celebrated in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday to encourage people to do their shopping at local businesses.

Papa Noel's Christmas Trees in Alamo Heights gave shoppers discounts Saturday to celebrate the holiday which was started in 2010 by American Express.

Last year shoppers spent approximately $15.4 billion on Small Business Saturday.

"We have a lot of people who have been coming to us for 20-plus years and I think they just always come back to support us as opposed to going to Walmart or Home Depot or anywhere like that," said Kathryn West with Papa Noel's Christmas Trees.

Shoppers also hit up the Esperanza Peace Market on Saturday on San Pedro. The event gives local artists and international indigenous craft makers a chance to sell their items directly to the public.

If you missed it on Saturday, the market will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
