NWS: Fire weather warnings and watches issued across South Texas

The National Weather Service says that high winds throughout South Texas could cause fires to spread rapidly, especially among dry vegetation.

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for Bexar County and counties to the east while many counties to the west have a fire weather warning.

The fire weather warning includes the counties of Val Verde, Edwards, Kinney, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Zavala, Dimmit, Kerr, Bandera, Medina, Frio, La Salle, Kendall, and McMullen.

The fire watch includes the counties of Comal, Bexar, Atascosa, Guadalipe, Wilson, Gonzales, Karnes, Lavaca, DeWitt, and Goliad.

The alert from the National Weather Service means that dangerous fire weather conditions are expected on Monday as elevated winds of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph combine with very low humidity values in the 5 to 20 percent range.

Any fire that does occur will be able to spread rapidly, especially as vegetation is dry from recent drought conditions.

The alert is expected to last into the evening. When the winds die down is when NWS is expected to end the watches and warnings.
