San Antonio's own “El Charro de Oro” Sebastien de la Cruz will be crooning about the Arabian nights to audiences at the Magik Theater next month.
The mariachi singer-turned-actor will play the titular character in a bilingual production of "Aladdin" at the children's theater.
De la Cruz first came to prominence on "America's Got Talent" and soon found himself in the national spotlight, singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the 2013 NBA Finals. Two years ago, he sang the National Anthem to open Day 3 of the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
The Magik Theatre's rendition of "Aladdin" will be based on the original tale from 1001 Arabian Nights, and featuring the Academy Award-winning score from Disney’s animated classic. The theater says that their version will take the classic tale and "revamp" it into a dual-language rendition featuring English and Spanish.
Performances are scheduled to start April 24 and will continue into June. The full schedule, as well as ticket purchases, is available at the Magik Theatre's website.
