Carry the Load makes a connection on Memorial Day

Carry the Load, a national Memorial Day remembrance relay, wrapped up a successful seventh year at Reverchon Park in Dallas on Monday.

The relay passed through San Antonio less than a week ago before heading up I-35 to complete its Seattle-to-Dallas route. A similar relay traveled from the East Coast to Dallas, as well.

One family participating in the Carry the Load event in Dallas also appeared in a movie for the organization, and they shared that story with us Monday.

The movie is called "Connection," and it features the Wolfer family.

"Stuart was three years younger than me. He was always my baby brother," Beverly Wolfer said.

"Our family decided not to let his memory fade so we started an Institute: The Major Stuart Adam Wolfer Institute," said his dad, Leonard Wolfer.

Stuart was killed in action on April 6, 2008.

"When Carry the Load started and we found out about it, we realized that we need to remember our fallen, and Carry the Load gave us impetus to start that."

They became involved with Carry The Load after a video of a fellow soldier's backpack was recognized on a promotional video for the organization.

Nearly a year later they finally got to meet that soldier, Army Captain Dare, making a "connection" to their lost loved one.
