Who will respond in an emergency?
It’s a question people in La Vernia have been asking since Wilson County Commissioners cut off funding to La Vernia EMS, the first group of emergency responders dispatched to the Sutherland Springs church shooting.
Wilson County Commissioners voted Monday to give money to Emergency Services District #3 in exchange for the Stockdale based crew to provide EMS coverage to La Vernia.
County leaders abruptly cut off funding for La Vernia EMS and diverted all calls from the volunteer agency days after the Sutherland Springs tragedy.
The County Judge wouldn't give specifics as to why they made that move, but those in the organization believe it's because they want the board president Paul Brunner to step down.
At this time, he has not.
The EMS director for ESD 3 told KENS 5 they plan to keep an ambulance and personnel in La Vernia at nearby ESD 1, which is less than a quarter mile away from La Vernia EMS.
The hope is that will eliminate any delay in response.
