A convicted baby killer could soon become the first serial killer to go free because of an old Texas law. Genene Jones was sent to prison for killing 15-month-old Chelsea. Chelsea was poisoned by the nurse who many say thought she could "play God" by making babies so sick that she would seem like a hero for saving them.
Jones was serving a 99-year sentence, but she could be eligible for automatic early release in 2018.
That's Chelsea's family's worst fear. "I don't think it's right," said James McClellan, Chelsea's great uncle. "It's like a slap on the wrist," he added.
According to Texas law, criminals convicted between 1977 and '87 can get out early automatic release on good behavior to help relieve prison overcrowding.
To keep Jones in prison, Chelsea's family has been scrambling for years to possibly prosecute Jones for other murders.
