An unauthorized dumping ground in east Bexar County is the focus of a state investigation.
A spokesman with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said on Thursday that the agency received a complaint about what appears to be a pop-up landfill in the 7300 block of FM 1346.
Inspectors were sent to the address Friday morning.
TCEQ spokesman Brian McGovern said that, in a joint probe with Bexar County, the operators of the facility were told their current venture is unauthorized and that an investigation report is pending.
A Facebook post advertised a $100 fee to dump anything except tires at the site.
When KENS 5 visited the yard on Friday afternoon, the gates were locked, but a contractor with a load of waste material was parked, waiting for entry to the site.
Neighbors said that the landfill appeared a few days ago and trucks have been dumping loads of waste like a steady stream.
A huge pile of construction debris is clearly visible from the street.
