Entire family will serve as BOF grand marshals, a first in Fiesta history

The announcement was made Wednesday at a Fiesta Press Conference where the tricentennial Fiesta medal was also revealed.

SAN ANTONIO - La Familia Cortez has been named the Grand Marshals for the 2018 Battle of Flowers Parade.

This is the first time in San Antonio history that an entire family will serve as grand marshal for the event. Organizers said that as many as 50 of them will board floats this year.

The Cortez family own a series of San Antonio restaurants including the Market Square landmark, Mi Tierra.

The announcement was made Wednesday at a Fiesta Press Conference where the tricentennial Fiesta medal was also revealed, another special addition to this coming year's Fiesta.

The 127th Battle of Flowers Parade will be held on Friday, April 27 during Fiesta’s city-wide celebration. The parade will begin at a new time with the Vanguard beginning at 9:30 a.m. and step-off beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The parade dates back to 1891 in honor of the fallen heroes at the Alamo to remember the victory at San Jacinto.

In April, nearly 350,000 people braved the heat just to get front and center at the 126th Annual Battle of Flowers Parade. One of the biggest day parades in the country, the celebration brought out bands, dancers, and performers from both in and outside of San Antonio.
