Neighborhood Eats: The power of The Point on N. Main

The menu's items are under $15.

SAN ANTONIO-1022 N. Main Avenue isn't real estate unfamiliar to restaurants. The latest tenant occupying the property is The Point on N. Main.

"The Point is a new restaurant that we designed and developed a few months ago and finally made it a reality at the end of October," JoAnn Karambis said.

Karambis is no stranger to owning restaurants. The Point is her sixth. According to her, it's her last. As for the origin of the business' name, it comes from being at the point of N. Main Ave and Lexington.

The space used to be The Clean Plate. Karambis used her background in 'design and build' to give the place nice new touches.

"This is a very small restaurant. It's about 850 square feet," she said.

Talking about making the most of space, Karambis added a bar. The strong wooden finishes of the bar match the tables. She shifted the kitchen to maximize efficiency. But what about what's coming out of the kitchen?

"We serve burgers. We serve wonderful salads," she said. "Vampiro tacos, carne guisada---just little things we do here that makes us special."

Karambis said her staff puts heart into what they cook and serve to its customers.

"It's nice to see that people enjoy wonderful food and appreciate a place that makes a good product," she said.

Neighborhood Eats was provided with a huge sampler from the menu---to get the point, of course.

The taste test started with the truffle fries which are fried in truffle oil, topped with parmesan cheese and green onions. There's a side of roasted garlic aioli. ¡Qué Rico!

The Point serves a Cobb salad with the traditional toppings like a great grilled chicken breast and avocado. To make the salad different the chef threw in radish and corn. Fresh and good!

If you like a burger with a kick of spice then the Mexican burger may be your dish. It's an all beef patty, topped with roasted poblano peppers, chorizo, jalapeno peppers, poblano peppers, pepper jack cheese and the trimmings. ¡Qué Rico!

The Belly up burger just seems like the perfect hangover burger: An all-beef patty, house cut and cured pork belly, arugula and an egg sunny side up on a bun. ¡Qué Rico!

Feeling a Cuban sandwich? The one at The Point is consistent with most good Cuban sandwiches.

One of the most popular dishes at The Point is their rendition of Chicken and Waffles. Picture a huge marinated chicken breast on a Belgian waffle with a side of fruit. ¡Qué Rico!

From the bar, there are a variety of options like a Bloody Mary garnished with bacon, a jalapeno margarita, a bomb pop (Yes, like the popsicle) made with vodka or order a breakfast of champions shot with a bacon chaser.

The menu's items are under $15. We hear this is good brunch and weekend breakfast spot but call ahead.
