Texsan Heart Hospital is offering free hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) screening for high school athletes on Saturday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to Noon.
Texsan Heart Hospital is teaming up with Championship Hearts Foundation to screen young athletes for HCM, to help identify male and female athletes who may be at risk for this silent killer.
HCM is the most common sudden cause of death in young athletes. An estimated 600,000 American have it - a genetic disease that causes the wall of the heart's left ventricle to enlarge, usually during adolescence. About every two weeks in the U.S., a high school, college or pro athlete with HCM will die.

Additional Information:
Any high school age athletes (includes all sports, dance team and band members) from the greater San Antonio area
-Student athletes must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
-Parents and guardians will be required to sign necessary release forms prior to the screening
-There is no charge for the screenings but donations to the Championship Hearts Foundation will be accepted.
