Lucky the elephant has a new companion.
The San Antonio Zoo received a 55-year-old Asian elephant Wednesday morning. Her name is "Boo".
Boo used to perform in the circus and was seized from a private owner in the Houston area.
Right now, Boo is in quarantine as she undergoes more medical tests. Zoo officials say it may be at least 30 to 45 days before the public will get a chance to see her.
"We're glad to have her. We know there are some folks out there who don't think we should've done what we did, but we're confident with what we've done," said zoo director Steve McCusker.
Animal protection advocates have said Boo belongs in an elephant sanctuary. They believe the elephant area is too small for both of the animals.
Zoo officials say that area has held as many as 5 elephants at one point, and there was plenty of room for them.
