SAN ANTONIO -- Officer Shawn King was providing a traffic barricade while two of his fellow officers tended to a stalled vehicle along the access road of the 12000 block of I-10 West. That's when police say a suspected drunk driver plowed into the officer's cruiser.

San Antonio police said the the 35-year-old officer was hit by 23-year-old Juan Lugo-Godines, who was exiting off of the 11700 block of Fredericksburg Road.

Investigators said Lugo-Godines tried running away after the crash, but that police, including King, chased him down.

Three bottles of Corona beer and cans of Bud Light were found inside the suspect's vehicle, police said. Several of the beverages were allegedly opened.

Lugo-Godines was booked on three charges, including DWI and evading arrest. Police said he has a previous DWI conviction.

King, a two-year veteran of SAPD's Prue substation, was taken to Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
