The driver of a pickup truck is dead following an accident with an 18-wheeler carrying about 180 cows.
Bexar County emergency crews responded to the accident in the 900 block of Loop 1604 and De Vilbiss Lane around 7 p.m. Officials said the two vehicles were traveling the same direction when the 18-wheeler rolled atop of the pickup truck, killing the driver.
Sgt. Mario Cervantes, of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, said crews were still trying to figure out how to get the cows out of the overturned trailer as of 10 p.m. He said it could be several hours before they are freed.
Investigators say 42 cattle died in the accident. Friday they are taking pictures of the scene and measuring skid marks as they look for answers to the rollover.
