SAN ANTONIO -- When you hear the words “hospital food” you might wrinkle up your nose in distaste.

University Hospital in San Antonio is trying to change that image. They’ve teamed up with Metro Health’s “Por Vida” program.

Each day, the cafeteria will offer at least one tasty, healthy option that is a restaurant quality meal with low calories, fat and sodium.

“You know, we’re here at a hospital. This is not the place anybody wants to be unless maybe you work here,” said University Health System spokesperson Leni Kirkman. “But in terms of being a patient here, everything we can do to take care of our own bodies and try to stay healthy is really a benefit. So this is a super way for us to promote that.

University is the first hospital to hop on board the Por Vida program which includes restaurants, some business sites and UTSA.
