Those who knew him say he died doing what he loved: creating art.

Several dozen friends of a 17-year-old killed after getting hit by a train were mourning his loss Monday.

Vincent Sauceda died Sunday morning on some train tracks near Highway 90 and West Thompson.

Police said he was spray-painting a stopped train car when a train heading in the opposite direction struck him.

Dozens of Sauceda's friends showed up at the tracks near his home late Monday afternoon to pray for him.

Some brought candles, and others flowers. All brought their love and support for his family.

His friends said Sauceda was not a tagger or a gang member. He was an artist, and he died doing what he loved.

Sauceda's brother, Raymond Sanchez, showed KENS 5 some of his work. He said his baby brother began to draw at the age of 4 and had aspirations of becoming a well-known artist.

"It's gonna hit me eventually," Sanchez said. "(I was) very close to him. Yeah, that was my only brother."

Another friend, Daniel Ramirez, also found consolation in his faith.

"It's a tragic loss," he said. "We know he's in a better place."

Sauceda was a student at John F. Kennedy High School and also was enrolled part-time at Edgewood Fine Arts Academy.

Family members are planning a rosary for him sometime this week.
